How We Film Your Day

Did you know that the average wedding takes 1-2 years to plan? We have been waiting a long time to meet you and finally your day has arrived.

So, how does it work and how do we go about the day?

Prior to the day you will have completed our wedding form and it's literally our bible! It is the key to all the information we need, playing a vital role in our day knowledge.

As videographers, we are super early birds and always like to be in the right place with plenty of time. Whether our location is Kent, London, Essex and so on, you can always trust our pronto arrival.

When working at Cooling Castle Barn we'll head straight over to the bride to introduce ourselves, we like to put you at ease. Weddings are stressful so if we can reassure you we have arrived and are raring to crack on– then we will. Sussing out the venue, is always handy in this extra time too and familiarising ourselves with what's happening where, makes a proactive timesaver.

We like to get stuckin from the get-go to make the most out of the time we have. Depending on your structure of your wedding day, and if we're filming the groom arrival too, we use our initiative. It is uncommon for things to be happening constantly, event after event. We take a moment in a section of bride-prep downtime to discuss our time wisely. Quite often I'll leave Ryan to the filming whilst I investigate what's going on elsewhere. If it's all in one venue, it's great to be able to manoeuvre in between rooms to ensure we're filming the best action. In this timeframe I can effectively organise the tripods and lenses for the ceremony too.

When it comes to your privacy dressing, we'll take 5 minutes or so capturing exterior venue shots. Of course, keeping a close eye on all the developments as they unfold. We'll move in between guests arriving, the groomsmen anxiously waiting and the bridal party with their last-minute touch-ups. A big part of our job is deciding whereto go and when and having the two of us means we can more capably do so. You can rest assured knowing you will never be waiting for us.

In regards to the ceremony, you can find me at the front. I'll be with the groom filming an overall room shot and a close-up for those tear-jerking moments. A discreet Lapel microphone will be clipped to the bridegroom. This enables the vows and personal promises to be profoundly clearer in the final edit. The sounds is not amplified, simply recorded for editing. Ryan will remain with the bride for that all-important aisle walk. We have many cameras with various angles to enable every precious moment to be captured.

Hugs and kisses make for some wonderful footage. Naturally, this tends to happen after the ceremony, when the vows have been declared and the papers have been signed. Using our zoom lenses, we can film from afar without imposing or causing any awkwardness. We are completely aware of the perception videographers can bring so we like to stand back and remain unobtrusive.

The zoom lenses are great for your couple shoot too. We always join along with your photographer and will subtly film away. We will not stage a single shot or compromise the work of your photographer and the photos. You'll actually learn that we've got all we need before you discover we're even there.

Not only do the Lapel mics work fantastically in the ceremony, they are applied in the speeches too. We have plenty of mics to go around, do not worry, your best man isn't getting out of it!

Cleverly positioned onto the speakers, it makes for better quality audio in your Documentary Edit.

Our camera set-up for the speeches stands as an overview of the room, a tighter frame on the top table and a super zoomed lens for each speaker and subject reactions. Again, with various angles the footage can be manipulated into film styled viewing, in contrast to a static, single shot. With each camera mounted onto a tripod, the footage is pleasurable to watch without any judders or headache worthy shakes.

We like to implement the use of motion with our Glidecams. With the camera mounted onto the steady glide, it's ideal for following our couples when they're on the move. For scenarios like cake cutting and first dances when there's action, our duo Glides are fantastic. One holds a wide lens, filling the frame with the room in its entirety, whilst the other is a tighter lens capturing those delicate and intimate moments. We'll always have a tripod recording near the dancefloor too. Again, switching between angles making a more exhilarating and creative wedding film.

We have perfected our craft over the years, finding the finest way to develop a truly magical wedding video for our couples. Our attitude will never become stale. With our flexible and experimental approach, we are always finding ways to improve, keeping up-to-date with the latest equipment and styles.
