Does a business need to have a website? The answer to this question may not be a very compelling yes, but at the very least, it can be said that a website can help boost business. Of course, businesses can still survive and even thrive without their corresponding websites. If you are running a business, though, you need to acknowledge the advantages of having one. Take the following points into account.

1. Websites are the centrepiece of an online presence, and they’re not difficult to create.
If you want to build your online presence, it is advisable to have your own website. A website makes your business easier to find online, especially if its domain name or web address perfectly matches your business name. Besides, there’s no excuse not to have one. There are many online services nowadays that let you build your own website, with free hosting (albeit limited). Perhaps, the only thing you have to pay for is the domain name registration so that you can have the appropriate web address for your site.

2. Social media pages may not be enough.
Social media pages don’t compare to websites when it comes to establishing a solid online presence and reputation. A website tends to make a business appear more credible and reputable. After all, it takes time, effort, and money to come up with a good website. Additionally, social media pages don’t provide the same kind of creative and technical freedom websites afford when it comes to establishing an online presence.

3. Search engine optimisation can, generally, only be done on your website.
As mentioned in #2, social media pages are limited. You can’t do search engine optimisation (SEO) on them to target specific keywords. If you want to attract online searches for certain keywords, you need your own website. Social media pages do appear on search engine results but you can’t expect your social media page to place well for more popular and profitable keywords. It will likely appear in results only for very specific keywords.

4. You can have a better web design if you own your site.
You can’t just entrust your online presence to social media pages or pages on marketplaces or shopping sites. If you own your site, you can design it the way you want. 5. You can add shopping cart, account registration, and other interactive elements on your site.
Additionally, having your own website lets you have a fully-fledged online store or ecommerce site complete with account/customer registration, a shopping cart, and other interactive elements to better engage your customers. Having a website creates several benefits for a business when it comes to reaching out to potential customers online. It is arguably better than just having a social media page or an account at a marketplace site because of the creative and technical freedom it affords.
