Common Plumbing Issues with Serious Underlying Causes

submitted on 27 June 2020 by colchesterboilerinstallations.co.uk

It is no stretch to say that having plumbing issues tends to be one of the most significant inconveniences a homeowner can face. Sometimes, it can be tempting to ignore a possible issue when the plumbing problem is not necessarily obvious, especially when there are so many other responsibilities to worry about. However, one of the worst things you can do when it comes to plumbing problems is to ignore them - it is bound to lead to much bigger problems sooner than you might think.

That said, it is also understandable to be confused about whether or not a problem is worth calling a plumber for. For example, when a homeowner is having problems with their boiler system. However, for seemingly minor problems, it can be hard to tell. Here are just a few common plumbing issues with serious underlying causes.

When you hear running water but cannot pinpoint the source
When it comes to plumbing, anything that is out of the ordinary is worth looking into. However, you will not necessarily see the damage done until it is too late - instead, you will likely hear it first. If you hear running water in areas of your home but cannot pinpoint where it is from as no-one is using the water, it is a warning sign that you need to give your plumber a call right away. Chances are it could be from a damaged part of your home’s plumbing system, something that could get much worse if you do not do something about it soon.

When you experience any clogs
One of the telltale signs of a clog is water that does not drain nearly as fast as it usually does. While there might be a few home solutions to deal with clogged pipes, chances are you could end up making the problem worse while trying to unclog the affected pipe. An experienced plumber will pinpoint the source of the problem and come up with the right kind of solution. Even something seemingly minor as water that does not drain as fast as it should is likely to have a serious underlying cause.

When you start to smell sewage
It might go without saying that any odour that smells like sewage needs to be looked into by a plumber as soon as possible. Chances are, one of the vents are broken, or there could be damaged piping. While it might not necessarily feel like a big deal, it will not take too long for the smell of sewage to become much stronger. After all, a damaged vent or pipe is vulnerable to even more damage over time.

There are plenty of situations where it might feel like it is not worth calling a professional to fix a problem. However, the scenarios above are all ticking time bombs. If you let the clock run out, it could end up damaging your home’s plumbing to the point where repairs could break the bank.
