Essential Guide to Hiring a Telehandler

submitted on 20 March 2022 by eagleplatforms.com
What do we mean by a Telehandler?
Telehandlers are machines that lift, move and reposition materials as required. The word is an abbreviation of 'telescopic handler' and refers to perhaps the most commonly used pieces of equipment on any site thanks to its versatility and wide range of applications. Telehandlers are perfect for staging initial materials, lifting heavy loads and site clean-up.

Telehandlers are excellent for reaching areas that traditional forklifts will struggle to reach and this is even more the case now, with the wide range of models on offer, of all shapes and sizes.

What training do you need?
In order to operate a telehandler an individual should be fully trained in an appropriate PASMA or IPAF accredited course, in order to make sure that the machine is operated in a manner that ensures the safety of the individual as well as others on site. NPORS and CPCS-accredited courses both award Red Trained Operator cards upon successful completion of their courses.

Choosing the right telehandler
The first step in choosing the right telehandler is finding the right hire company. Eagle Platform have an excellent reputation for customer service, response time in case of breakdown and are able to offer you great advice as to which telehandler is most appropriate for your individual set of circumstances. We also provide a vast range of training programmes as well as a handy online tool to help you pinpoint the right machine for your job. Some of the key considerations you might want to ask include:
  • How much space do I have to operate? What is the narrowest area through which the telehandler must pass?
  • How high do I need to go?
  • Do I need a machine that is capable of working outside and indoors? If so, a hybrid or electric telehandler may be the best option.
  • What load capacity do I need?
  • How much horsepower is required?
Once you answer all of these questions and consider the benefits of diesel, hybrid and electric models you will have the information required to make an informed choice.
